A Breath of Fresh Air
I am alone in the dark… almost. While I sit in this room, I have just enough light allowing me to see the keyboard as I type. I would say, “Rest easy, friend,” but with all of these thoughts whirling around, I must also say, Take it one step at a time.” There is so much more to life than going through the motions, but it is a whole different ball game as you start to fly by the seat of your pants. A happy medium will suffice!
As I think about everything – all my dreams and aspirations, I far too often think to myself, ‘Where is God?’ Well, honestly, he has always been with me. I am his child, we are chosen to walk with Him, but we must accept Him for who He is and what He stands for. My identity lies in Christ, not in money, fancy cars, or a dream home; granted, those things are SUPER nice, don’t get me wrong, but the question that comes to mind this evening…
Why do we wait to talk to God until we need something important?
A decision must be made? Someone must be saved? We need an A+ on this assignment? But the reality is, we have not spoken to him in days, perhaps weeks or even months, so what happens then? Do we give up? Throw in the towel? NO! Absolutely not. No matter where we find ourselves, we are always welcomed by our God, our Father. It is in these times of turmoil and tribulation we must quiet the noise and listen to the whispers of God.
Yesterday I was listening to Kent Bolinger speak on the Word FM, and he made a great point. When you’re learning to fly a plane, you do not fly through the clouds, because if you do, you don’t know which way is up or down. Mr. Bolinger explains a time when he found himself upside down, but he was having the time of his life. ‘Why are they keeping us from having so much fun?’ For our protection; so we don’t end up lost and somewhere we are endangered.
In the same vein, take leadership, take your current position at work. When you have a question, you try to figure it out right then. You don’t wait until you have a problem, you search it, you ask someone, you pursue…
Isn’t that what God wants?
He wants us to pursue Him always. His greatest desire is a relationship with us, not some fancy checklist us mortals made. He wants our hearts; He wants us to thrive in glory with Him throughout our daily lives.
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses, but the follow up verses are great, if not the greatest, “12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV, Bible Gateway).
I don’t know about you, but I am most certainly challenged every day to slow down and take a breath and know my heart is secure in the Lord, our God.
Here are some quick takeaways:
- Make plans, but trust God’s is greater.
- Live your life, but more importantly, know that you have time for God. He always finds time for you.
- Even the things unseen (God) reveal to you our Creator. Trust the beauty of this life is real, even in the midst of storms.
Be a champion.
